The former NWA United States Tag Team Titles were
officially referred to as the WCW United States Tag Team Titles from January
1991 until the titles were discontinued by WCW Executive Bill Watts on July
31, 1992, in order to put more focus on the Unified WCW/NWA World Tag Team
Championship.
Rick & Scott Steiner are regarded as the first WCW United States Tag
Team Champions.
The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner) defeated The Midnight
Express (Stan Lane & Bobby Eaton) on 08/24/90 in East Rutherford, NJ
to win the titles.
The Steiners were stripped of the titles upon
winning the WCW World Tag Team Titles on 02/20/91.
The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin) defeated
The Young Pistols (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) in a tournament
final on 05/19/91 in St. Petersburg, Florida at SuperBrawl to win the vacant
titles.
The Patriots (Todd Champion & Firebreaker Chip) defeated The Fabulous
Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin) on 08/12/91 in Gainesville,
Georgia to win the titles.
The Young Pistols (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) defeated
The Patriots (Todd Champion & Firebreaker Chip) on 11/05/91 in Gainesville,
Georgia to win the titles.
Ron Simmons & Big Josh defeated The Young Pistols (Tracy Smothers
& Steve Armstrong) on 01/14/92 in Columbus, Georgia to win the
titles.
Greg Valentine & The Taylor-Made Man defeated Ron
Simmons & Big Josh on 02/17/92 in Rock Hill, South Carolina
to win the titles.
The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin) defeated
Greg Valentine & The Taylor-Made Man on 05/17/92 in
Jacksonville, Florida at Wrestle War to win the titles for the 2nd
time.
Dick Slater & The Barbarian defeated The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael
Hayes & Jimmy Garvin) on 06/25/92 in Kansas City, Missouri to win
the titles.
WCW Executive Bill Watts discontinued the U.S.
Tag team Titles on 07/31/92 to put focus on the WCW/NWA Unified World Tag
Team Titles.
